    Nigel is current in his second stint with the M6 Board, having originally joined the team in 2000. A qualified accountant by profession, he works extensively with public service organisations as is able to bring to bear his knowledge and experience on their financial and governance regime to his current role as Chair of the M6 Finance Committee. Nigel is passionate about the role of the charity sector in helping develop better communities for tomorrow, especially through the medium of performing arts, which no doubt emanates from his involvement on the stage during his youth. In his personal time, when not involved with the M6 or his other charity trustee role, Nigel enjoys spending time with his family, engaging in fitness activities and avidly supporting Manchester City Football Club.

    Muriel has worked with M6 for many years, firstly as a teacher who valued the work that M6 brought into the classroom and into the lives of young people, also as a creative partner sharing in exciting, dynamic projects in primary schools and latterly as Chair of the Engagement Committee. She taught Dance and Drama at a local 11 to 16 comprehensive school where she became head of the Creative, Expressive and Performing Arts Faculty and Assistant Headteacher. She was particularly interested in how the Arts could support young people’s academic and literacy learning. She is now retired and in the process of learning new skills in house renovation!

    Nan has known M6 since its inception and through many exciting working partnerships, especially around the early years and creative family learning.  All throughout her working life she has been championing literacy and creative ways of learning, and wrote Rochdale Metropolitan Borough Council’s all-age Literacy Policy, Literacy Changes Lives. Nan is now retired and has time to enjoy the arts and being in the countryside.

  • Robin Parker — (Local Government and Creative Writing)

    A retired local councillor, Robin has been active with the board since 1992. Having retired from elected politics, Robin still keeps his finger on the pulse of local government and advises the board accordingly. A strong supporter of the arts and a writer, he is also a dramatist and his work on the Holocaust was performed by a member of M6 Youth Theatre in the prestigious setting of Rochdale Town Hall. He published his first book in 2009 and is currently working on a volume of illustrated sonnets, in the manner of Shakespeare, to selected works of Van Gogh.

  • Jill Welsby — Board Member

    Jill has worked in partnership with M6 for many years in her role as Children’s and Youth Empowerment Worker, set within the Rochdale Borough Council Youth Service. Although retired now, she continues to support and promote M6 in their core values of creating opportunities for children and young people to engage, be involved in and influence decisions and initiatives within the company. Having lived and worked in the Borough for more than thirty years she has witnessed the positive impact M6 has had in enabling communities to understand each other, share ideas and thrive.
